Double Vanity Sizes and Spacing.

A double bathroom vanity has two sinks side-by-side, intended for two people to use simultaneously. The minimum useful width is 60 inches; 72 inches is the comfortable standard; 84 inches gives spa-level separation. The sink centerlines need at least 30 inches between them, and each user needs at least 12 to 15 inches of counter on the outside of their sink. Getting any of these wrong leaves two people elbowing each other while brushing teeth.

The numbers.

Minimum useful width: 60 inches. Below this, the sinks are too close together and the storage between them disappears. 60 inches gives 30 inches between sink centerlines plus 15 inches of counter on each outside.

Comfortable standard: 72 inches. Sinks 36 inches center-to-center, 18 inches counter on each outside. Generous storage between, comfortable elbow room.

Spa-level: 84 inches plus. Sinks 42 to 48 inches apart, 18 to 21 inches counter on each outside, room for a large storage unit between sinks (or two storage units flanking).

Height: 36 inches counter height is the modern standard for double vanity (kitchen counter height, easier on the back). 32 inches traditional. Pick by household preference.

Common questions.

What is the minimum width for a double vanity?
60 inches. Below this, the sinks are too close together and the layout does not work. 72 inches is the recommended comfortable standard.
How far apart should sinks be on a double vanity?
30 inches between sink centerlines is the minimum; 36 inches is comfortable; 42 to 48 inches reads as spa-level separation. Less than 30 inches and the sinks crowd each other.
Is a double vanity worth the bathroom space?
Yes in primary baths where two people get ready simultaneously. The functional improvement (no one waiting for the sink) is real. Skip it in secondary baths or homes where simultaneous use does not happen.
