Pattern families
Medallion: central diamond or oval motif anchored by a border. Most-recognized Persian pattern. All-over floral: continuous pattern across the field with no central anchor. Reads as texture more than as motif.
Regional patterns: Heriz (geometric medallion, North Persian), Tabriz (fine knot, complex floral), Kashan (silk-blend detail), Bidjar (heavy wool, dense weave), Qashqai (tribal, bolder geometry).
Construction and material
Hand-knotted construction: each pile yarn tied by hand around the warp. Knot count (KPSI - knots per square inch) drives detail and price: 100-200 KPSI standard, 400-800 KPSI fine, 1000+ KPSI master quality. Higher KPSI = finer detail = higher cost.
Pile material: wool standard, wool-silk blend for accent pieces and luminous color depth. Pure-silk Persian rugs exist but are art objects, not floor rugs. Display only.
