Through-body, rectified, large-format
Through-body porcelain carries the color through the full thickness; chips do not reveal a different substrate. Glazed porcelain (color in the top layer only) is the budget tier. Rectified edges are machine-cut square so grout lines can run tight (2-3mm) instead of standard 6mm.
Large-format slab porcelain (1200x2400mm and larger) reads like stone slab at a fraction of the weight and cost. Used for feature walls, kitchen counters, shower surrounds.
Looks: stone, concrete, terrazzo, wood
Modern porcelain printing matches stone, concrete, terrazzo, wood, and metal looks at scale. The print quality has caught up. At 6+ feet a stone-look porcelain reads as stone.
Finish: polished, matte, structured (slip-resistant for wet areas), bush-hammered (textural). Coefficient of friction documented per tile where commercial spec requires.
