Common questions

A double-hung window has two sashes in a single frame that both slide up and down. Opening the top sash and the bottom sash at once lets warm air out the top while cooler air comes in the bottom, which is why double-hung is a classic ventilation design.

Aluminum keeps the frame and the meeting rail slim, so a double-hung in aluminum shows more glass than the same window in a bulkier material, and it will not rot or warp. That suits a replacement where you want the traditional double-hung action with a cleaner, longer-lasting frame.
